The current global situation has brought with it many new challenges, stresses and strains in our lives such as health concerns, worries about returning to work and stress related to caring and homeschooling responsibilities. Given everything that is going on, it’s understandable you may feel stressed, anxious and down. But it doesn’t always have to be this way.
There are many ways to overcome stress and get you back into a more balance state of being where you can engage with the world in a purposeful and meaningful way.
This five-week programme (approx. 12-14 hrs) aims to provide you with the tools and techniques to help you build resilience and enhance psychological well-being to meet life’s challenges with a greater sense of control, efficiency and optimism.
Based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy, this programme takes a blended learning approach to giving you the practical tools to move forward, the way you want to.

Programme content
Week 1: Present Awareness
In this session, we learn about the connection between how we think, how we feel emotionally and physically and how it connects to our behaviours and what we do. This becomes the foundation on which all our work to build psychological resilience will be based. From there, you will learn a series of techniques to bring your conscious awareness to the present moment and how you can use this knowledge to create space between your internal experiences and your actions so that you can have a more intentional approach to life.
Week 2: Act on Your Values
We make decisions and take action in our life based on our internal values compass. This internal compass defines who we are, the types of relationships we value and what actions are true for us and the world as we know it. By connecting with our value systems in this way, it can help us to more effectively manage our stress and navigate the challenges we face. Consequently, these intentional, values-based decisions are more likely to lead us towards a meaningful and purposeful life.
Week 3: Unhooking and Making Room
In this session, we look at those unhelpful experiences that create and magnify stress. While we are unable to take stress away fully, (we can never do that!) we can make room for it in a more healthy and balanced way. Here, we learn a range of techniques and approaches that will allow us to ‘unhook’ and distance ourselves from those things that do not serve us in our life. By creating space for it in this way, we can learn to accept it, push past the discomfort it brings up and take committed action to move forward.
Week 4: The Mind-Body Connections
There is a significant and powerful connection between the mind and the body, therefore we need to consider both elements when targeting stress. In this session we look at the impact of stress on our biorhythms and understand why good diet, hydration, exercise and sleep are essential components for stress reduction. We look at the concept of active recovery for peak-performance and identify healthy, balanced routines, rituals and actions that support our ability to effectively manage stress.
Week 5: Self-Compassion
When we are stressed, we often say and do things to ourselves that we would never dream of saying to someone else. We love to beat ourselves up and can get sucked into a vicious cycle of self-deprecation and self-criticism. This session brings together all the learning from the programme and uses the concept of self-compassion to glue it together. Consequently, you will learn a range of tools and techniques that can help you to face whatever life throws at you, in a more kind, loving and compassionate way.

Pre-work: Before taking part in the programme, you will:
5 x Group Coaching Sessions: Each session consists of a 90 mins interactive group coaching session which will be conducted virtually. During the session, you will gain an understanding of the underlying experience of stress as well as a range of tools and techniques which will help you to take meaningful action to overcome it and move forward in a constructive and balanced way.
Homework: At the end of each session, you will be given:
CONFIDENTIALITY
We fully appreciate that the topic in general and the issues raised during the programme will be of a sensitive nature. We will therefore take all necessary steps to protect privacy and maintain confidentiality throughout the programme. Additional information will be provided on registration.
- Complete a short questionnaire which looks at your current levels of stress to give you a baseline understanding of your experience. The questionnaire will be given again at the end of the programme to help you gage the progress you have made during your 5-week journey.
- Engage in a 15 min individual coaching session to discuss your needs so that we can tailor your learning experience specifically to you.
5 x Group Coaching Sessions: Each session consists of a 90 mins interactive group coaching session which will be conducted virtually. During the session, you will gain an understanding of the underlying experience of stress as well as a range of tools and techniques which will help you to take meaningful action to overcome it and move forward in a constructive and balanced way.
Homework: At the end of each session, you will be given:
- A practical homework exercise to complete based on that week’s topic. This will be submitted electronically to increase commitment and accountability for action.
- Additional learning opportunities such as useful articles to read, questionnaires to complete and Ted Talks videos to watch will also be provided. While optional, we highly recommend you complete these additional activities to help you consolidate your learning and make the experience as meaningful as possible.
